The mother of the functional safety company, so to speak, is IEC 61508.
First published in 1998, the basic measures for safe products are defined in this standard.
All other functional safety standards are based on and refer to this IEC 61508.
- IEC 61511: Functional safety - Safety instrumented systems for the process industry
- IEC 61513: Nuclear power plants - Control technology for systems with safety significance - General system requirements
- EN 50128: Railway applications - Telecommunications, signalling and data processing systems - Safety-related electronic systems for signalling
- IEC 62061: Safety of machinery - Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems
- ISO 26262: Road vehicles - Functional safety
- ISO 25119: Tractors and machinery for agriculture and forestry - Safety-related parts of control systems - Functional safety
and some more.
This standard also consists of several parts:
- Part 0: Functional safety and the IEC 61508(IEC/TR 61508-0:2005-10).
- Part 1: General requirements (IEC 61508-1:2010)
- Part 2: Requirements for safety-related electrical/electronic/programmable electronic systems (IEC 61508-2:2010)
- Part 3: Requirements for software (IEC 61508-3:2010)
- Part 4: Terms and abbreviations (IEC 61508-4:2010)
