This standard:
- Specifies the required processes to be implemented in engineering activities that result in requirements for systems and software products (including services) throughout their life cycle;
- provides guidance on the application of the requirements and requirements-related processes described in ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207;
- specifies the required information elements generated by the implementation of the requirements processes;
- specifies the required content of the required information elements;
- Provides guidelines for the format of the required and related information elements.
This document is applicable to:
- anyone who applies or intends to apply ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 to projects dealing with man-made systems, software-intensive systems, software and hardware products, and services related to these systems and products, regardless of project scope, product(s), methodology, size, or complexity;
- anyone performing requirements engineering activities to ensure that their application of requirements engineering processes is compliant with ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 and/or ISO/IEC/IEEE12207;
- anyone who applies or plans to apply ISO/IEC/IEEE 15289 to projects dealing with man-made systems, software-intensive systems, software and hardware products, and services associated with those systems and products, regardless of project scope, product(s), methodology, size, or complexity;
- anyone performing requirements engineering activities to ensure that information developed in the application of requirements engineering processes conforms to ISO/IEC/IEEE 15289.
